“Laura Kinnear (née Andon), Australia’s golden girl first hit the spotlight as a pro surfer and model, yet it was her renowned outgoing and spirited personality, which carved her career as a respected model, inspirational author, and presenter. It is not everyday one comes across a personality such as Laura who can ride a board at elite levels, model a front cover of a magazine, hold a crowd presenting, as well as possess the natural ability to instantly morph into character. Laura however demonstrates all of these talents and does so with humility and a smile. Laura is involved in a number of community initiatives, educates high school students about health and wellness, is a great role model, and would be a very respected and valued brand advocate for any company she were to represent”.
Laura began surfing at 17 years, falling in love with the beach culture. She hit the limelight in 2004 as a pro surfer, achieving sponsorship for two-years with giant surf company, Billabong. In 2006, Rusty, Dragon and FCS offered Laura sponsorship and she made the shift from competition to free-surfing. In 2008, Laura became the International face for Ocean and Earth and began making her transition into modelling.
During Laura’s surf and modelling commitments, she graduated from Wollongong University with a Bachelor of Education, majoring as a high school PDHPE Teacher. Laura’s passion for health and wellbeing is incorporated into her daily life and she educates students about the importance of living a holistic lifestyle.
Working as a casual teacher, Laura was still gaining success in the world of modeling and fronted iconic campaigns such as Bonds, Pantene , Abercrombie & Fitch, David Jones, and Holden. After landing numerous TV commercials she began TV presenting, also enrolling into acting class to hone her craft. Laura moved to Los Angeles and began auditioning for film and TV before jetting off to the Maldives to produce her anticipated book.
In 2013, Laura launched ‘The Ride Of Life‘, an empowering and inspirational learn to surf book. Laura uses surfing as a metaphor, encouraging people to stand up for themselves, both in and out of the water. Her school tour inspired many students to go out and reach their true potential. Laura’s natural ease in building a rapport with the younger generation is a testament to her ability to connect and make a positive impact. The success of The Ride Of Life, is spread across TV screens, magazines, online and social media. Laura appeared on Channel 10 – Studio 10; Channel 9 – Today; Channel 7 – Sydney Weekender; and Foxtel’s – The Disney Channel.
Born to be infront of the camera, Laura joined two Aussie adventurers to embark on a journey to experience the wonderful world of adventure travel. The TV Show Miss Adventure inspired people to get outdoors and fight fear. The free-spirited trio brought you entertainment, courage, laughter and honest friendship straight to the TV screens. Laura also appeared on Channel 9 Getaway for two separate Miss Adventure stories, showcasing New Zealand’s heli-boarding, fly-fishing, snowshoeing and snow kiting.
Laura continues to grace our screens, landing a featured role in the iconic Tourism Australia Campaign , also securing TV commercials for Sunsilk, Mistubishi and Biozet. Making her acting debut, Laura was cast in feature film ‘The Day Hollywood Died’, and also played the role of Cassie in comedy-drama web series, ‘I Know You Are’.
Laura has a strong reputation among clients and has also modelled for Olay, Condura, Clearasil, Rebel Sport, Subaru, Amy New Bridal, Best n Less, Big W, Kodak, Invisalign, AAPT, Plush Furniture, Finish Rinse Aid and Victoria Hill.
With content creation emerging, Westfield approached Laura to create a social media campaign for Westfield Miranda. Five content posts were produced for retailers; Tigerlily, Sheike, Mimco, Quiksilver, and The Upside. The campaign hashtag #jointhefrontline was required for each image.
2017 sees Laura secure a global TVC for Scholl, beauty campaign LÜK Beautifood, national print campaign for Harvey Norman, Lendlease, and also the face of spring/summer JOY fashion campaign. Laura also models for online retailers and catalogues such as Brands Exclusive and Women’s Day. 2018 brings Laura back to the ocean as a surfer girl, featuring in the new Centrum TV Commercial and print campaign. Expecting her second child, Laura is cast as a pregnant mother for the new A2 Milk commercial. 2019 sees Laura model for Qantas in their global print and TVC campaign, Telsra 5G online video, and HSBC TVC.
With a bright future and true Aussie spirit, Laura’s attraction to making a difference doesn’t go unnoticed. Her philanthropic nature has allowed her to contribute and add value to many organisations. Laura has been ambassador and spokesperson for the national Cervical Cancer i-did campaign, Clearasil’s “secrets of looking and feeling awesome” campaign, and has also been a Bonds fashion stylista. With her natural zest for life, positive nature and big heart, she has been a perfect ambassador for Variety (the children’s charity) hosting high-profile events for many years. WWF (world wildlife fund) utilized Laura as their youth ambassador for their environmental movement, Earth Hour. Laura has also joined Sanitarium as Sydney’s event ambassador, for their Weet-Bix Kids TRYathalon. Laura has also fulfilled an ambassador role for Ocsober, encouraging people to be sober, helping raise funds for Life Education and Healthy Harold. As a new mum, Laura collaborates with City to Surf , encouraging mothers to grab their prams and enter the event.
Laura resides in Cronulla with her golfing luminary hubby and two sons, Rocky and Cruz.
As a mum on the go, Laura enjoys juggling modeling, casual teaching, mum / wife life, whilst still trying to catch the odd wave and remain fit and healthy!
